Free community dinner planned in Goshen

What's Going on for the week of Dec. 24

GOSHEN — First Presbyterian Church, 215 E. Lincoln Ave., Goshen, is again hosting a free Christmas Day community meal Tuesday.

The event is open to anyone in the community who would like to attend.

Doors open around 12:30 p.m. and the meal will begin at 1 p.m.

There is also a delivery service for people who are homebound. Call the church at 533-7845 for more information.

Christmas services

The following local churches have announced Christmas and/or New Year’s services:

• At First Presbyterian Church today,  the Chancel Choir will present a musical at the 10:20 a.m. service. There will be two services on Christmas Eve at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

• FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 406 S.  Fifth St., Goshen, will have Candlelight Communion services on Monday, Christmas Eve, at 5:30 and 10:30 p.m.

On Dec. 30 the Christmas season will be observed with a special liturgy of Lessons and Carols at 10:15 only.  

• Goshen Christian Church, 2133 Berkey Ave., Goshen, will have a Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24.

• WEST GOSHEN CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN, 1200 Berkey Ave., Goshen, will have a 10 a.m. worship service today which will include choral Christmas music. On Christmas Eve at 6 p.m., the Chancel Choir will lead a candlelight service of carols and Scripture readings.

• St. John of the Cross, 601 E. Vistula St., Bristol, will host a hymn sing at 10:30 p.m. Monday, Christmas Eve, and a Christmas Eucharist at 11 p.m.

Last weekend (July 12) the Goshen Parks Department held its Kid’s Try-athlon to promote childhood fitness and this week (July 18) the new bicycle trail is open to the fairgrounds in Goshen, offering residents a healthy way to get to the annual agriculture exposition. Have you joined the local fitness movement?
