Alexandra Hochstetler made the Hoosier state proud Saturday night when she made the top 10 of the Distinguished Young Women National Finals in Mobile Ala.
The Middlebury resident also earned an interview scholarship Saturday night.
She was also a Scholastic Scholarship winner Friday in the preliminary competition of the event.
Hochstetler competed for community-supported cash scholarships in the fitness, talent and self-expression categories Friday. Her talent was performing “Warsaw Concerto” by Richard Addinsell on the piano. In March, Hochstetler won the Indiana Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program for 2013. The competition was formerly known as the Junior Miss scholarship program.
Hochstetler is a graduate from Northridge High School. She plans to attend Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis to study in the biology and pre-medical programs with a focus in neuroscience. She plans to attend medical school and teach and do research at the college level. Her parents are Rhonda and Nathan Hochstetler.
Other states represented in the top 10 were: Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Wisconsin, Mississippi, Illinois , Colorado and Washington.
Saturday night’s big winner was Washington’s Nicole Renard.
