Goshen home sustains heavy damage in fire

GOSHEN — Fire heavily damaged a Goshen home early Monday morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze at 401 E. Jefferson St. at 1:14 a.m. Flames were visible in the upstairs windows when firefighters arrived at the scene, according to Assistant Fire Chief Jim Ramer. Ramer said firefighters searched the house and found no one inside.

Ramer said the fire was on the second floor, and also got into the attic.

“(The fire) did go through the roof,” he said. Ramer estimated the damage to the structure at around $100,000.

Around 20 firefighters battled the blaze. None of them were injured, Ramer said. Firefighters were at the scene until around 8 a.m. Monday.

Ramer said several neighbors reported that the structure was vacant. However, one neighbor said there were possibly squatters living in the house.

Firefighters are continuing an investigation, Ramer said, and a cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.

The structure is owned by Marlowe Yoder.

I think it’s an excellent idea that is way overdue
I think it’s a bad idea and would be restrictive for students and parents.
