Three killed in two crashes in Elkhart County

THE GOSHEN NEWS

Three people were killed in two separate crashes in Elkhart County Friday.

Shortly before 4 p.m., two vehicles collided at the intersection of C.R.s 34 and 37 in Clinton Township, east of Goshen. A black Chevrolet Lumina was headed south, and the driver apparently failed to yield the right of way. The Lumina collided with a westbound Mercury Mountaineer sport utility vehicle. Both vehicles came to rest in a pasture at the southwest corner of the intersection.

Two occupants in the Lumina died as a result of the crash; one of them was airlifted via MedFlight. The driver of the SUV was transported to Goshen General Hospital.

A single-vehicle crash also occurred on C.R. 31 near C.R. 50 near Syracuse Friday at approximately 2:30 p.m., killing the driver. According to Elkhart County police, the driver, whose name has not been released, was northbound on C.R. 31 when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, crashing into a tree. Police said that there was only one person in the vehicle at the time and weather was not a factor in the crash.
