INDIANAPOLIS — State Senate Appropriations Chairman Robert Meeks says he’s dropping his re-election bid this year because of his health.
Meeks is a Republican from LaGrange. He missed several weeks during the 2007 legislative session after having a stroke. He says he also spent several days in a Fort Wayne hospital after a fainting spell.
Meeks has represented Senate District 13 in northeastern Indiana since 1988. He has played an instrumental role in drafting the past several two-year state budgets.
Meeks will fill out the remainder of his term, but Republican precinct committee members in District 13 will slate someone else to be on the general election ballot in November.
