The South Side Soda Shop Diner will be featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” July 2 during an episode titled “Retro.”
Three months ago cameras captured locals enjoying the South Side Soda Shop’s sandwiches and grill fare with host Guy Fieri looking on
Fieri, the 2006 winner of the “Next Food Network Star Competition,” helped owners Nick and Charity Boyd in the kitchen as well as on the floor.
Cameras rolled as Nick guided Fieri through baking the Soda Shops Swedish Limpa bread, creating a pot of chili and steaming the Soda Shop’s “Seafood Feast.”
“Nick and I are very excited. It’s been a wonderful experience. We had a ball,” Charity said.
While they have not seen the portions of the show taped at the Soda Shop, they have been watching a lot of episodes of Food Network lately, she said.
Charity said that she and Nick had talked about throwing a big party at the Soda Shop on July 2 during the airing of the show, but worried no one would come at 10 p.m.
“We decided to have a party at home for our family and friends,” she said.
Charity said everyone at the Soda Shop is thankful that the Food Network chose the restaurant to profile.
“We are excited for Goshen, too. Hopefully, it will really put Goshen on the map,” she said.
The homemade food, retro atmosphere and hometown feel of the restaurant is what attracted Diners, Drive-ins and Dives producers to the South Side Soda Shop.
The restaurant has also been featured in Gourmet magazine and regional publications. More information can be found at www.southsidesodashopdiner.com, or at the restaurant which is located at 1122 S. Main St., Goshen.
