Thomas 40th

GOSHEN — Everett J. and Barbara Gunden Thomas celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Aug. 6.

They were married by the late Rev. Bob Detweiler in the old seminary chapel  of Goshen College in 1972.

The Thomas’ honeymoon trip was by car up the west coast of Michigan to Mackinaw Island. To celebrate their anniversary, the couple spent 40 days on their sailboat on Lake Michigan, retracing some of the honeymoon trip by boat.

Friends visited the couple during their 40-day trip that ended Labor Day, and the Thomases’ two adult children visited with their families on several occasions.

He is editor of  “The Mennonite,” the national magazine for the Mennonite Church USA denomination, headquartered in Elkhart. He has also been on the Goshen City Council for 20 years.

She retired from the Goshen Community School system in June 2010 after 38 years as a teacher at Waterford Elementary School.

The Thomases are members of College Mennonite Church in Goshen.
